.....as far as I can recall,Jerry Lawler was the original.He was known as "the king" when he ran the Memphis area in the early 80's....Race didn't become "King" until he went to the WWF.Wasn't he the original "King?"

Haha,I suspect McMahon gave Race the King moniker as a nod to his background as NWA champion on numerous occasions.Aha!
