I'm trying to design a 72 gallon bowfront planted tank. I would like all the plants and animals to be from at least South America. My planned stock before was:
5 eques/brown pencilfish, 7 weiztmani tetras, 5 sailfin tetras, 6 marbled hatchetfish, 2 zebra acara, 5 panda corys, 4 bluespotted corys, 2-3 Brachyrhamdia imitator, and 1-3 otos.
Then, I thought of an idea, that I could use something a bit big. At first I thought of using raphael cats, but I realized I already have a lot of catfish. So my mind went to knifefish. I remember in an old book of a picture of a camouflaged knife. I knew even as a kid, that black ghosts are overrated and can also eat small fish AND get really big. But that "camo" species kept circling my mind when I was seven.
Fast forward 10 years, and as I was browsing segrest farms, I come across Steatogenys duidae, but they called it Sierra knifefish. Which was the exact species that was in the book I saw. With further research I came across it's common name in the trade: centipede knifefish. It's max size is about 8 inches, but regularly maxes out at 6". It's diet is about the same as all other South American knifefish, and it's sensitive to medication. I'm only going to get one knifefish if I can find one in the trade, so I won't have to deal with aggression towards each other. What I'm here to ask is it's compatibility with the fish I have planned out now. Is there anybody who has kept this species that can say it will munch on the small tetras, or are they completely safe with the setup I have thought of?
