I've always wanted a peacock bass and finally picked up a 12" blue Azul one. I put it in my 210 which has a 13" Armatus and they started circling each other etc. they usually stay on opposite sides of the tank but occasionally you'll see one chase off the other and vice versa.

Just wondering if this is going to be a recipe for disaster or if this is just normal behavior for new fish together?

Others have direct experience so hopefully they will chime in. I have not kept payara. My gut feeling would be that the armatus will try to eat the azul, and potentially die or become badly hurt in the process. If the opposite were to happen (also possible), the outcome could be the same.

Well on the Armatus I would have him alone let him swim into some current.
With the bass you can have more fish with them imo.
Eventually that might happen but so far tankmates are as follows:
2ft fire eel
11" Hoplias curupira
13" Endli
13" Lapradei
7" Delhizi
16" longnose gar

I think on occasion the wolf and vampire get into it so I've been keeping an eye on that. The vampire is growing much faster than the wolf.

Well the Azul peacock bass kept on trying to bully the Armatus and the Armatus took a swipe at the bass's eye. I moved the bass out the tank. This didn't work because of the bully nature of the Azul.

Do you think the bass will heal?

They will all be blinded within a few months.
Especially the gar. But everything is at risk plus at night the Armatus can get spooked by tank mates & bash there head against the tank.
Grow that beast out & post pics & videos that would be totally awesome.
