i use these ceramic bio rings in ALL of my canister filters. Not all are Marineland brand, some i bought in a net bag for $5 from an LFS (actually a lot of them). they all, including the Marineland, are rough, hard and porous. i didn't choose them, my ex did, but i have no reason to change, they do what i need them to do.
Anyone used Marineland's ceramic rings for biofiltration?

What you're talking about sounds like sintered glass, not ceramic. Totally different story! One of the best medias per volume, so if it is -> keep it.
