Ok, i don't know if i have lucked out and picked a good neighborhood with a quality LFS. However, i have as of late been reviewing websites where ordering fish would also be an option. Having been in the hobby now for over two years, i understand it isn't the cheapest in the world. Especially for a college student like me with a go big or go home attitude, and a go home type budget. So my question to everyone is, have you ever sold/purchased through aquabid? Are there ever really any AMAZING deals on there? Earlier i seen 2 four inch clown loaches, going for 100$ plus 25$ shipping. I guess when it comes down to it, i am looking for cheaper fish than my LFS, and to not get raped over by the shipping. I might be getting my hopes up a bit too much, but tell me what you think :)

never tried aquabib my self but my friend has had luck with them and I have read posts with them with good things. I have also herd horror stories. Depends from seller to seller

I use aquabid to see what different sellers have and usually contact the seller directly. I've purchased from snookn21 and wetspot after seeing their fish on aquabid in the past.

i know exactly what you mean lol. but i've bought a few times on aquabid. never had a problem. besides, most transactions on there go through paypal, which would typically cover you if anybody gives you trouble.

Never used Aquabid before, but i'm going to go out on a limb and say its probably not unlike e-bay in the sense that yes, your likely to find a great deal from time to time, but just gotta be aware of potential scammers trying to rip you off... especially when a deal seems to good to be true...

Bought from aquabid similar to ebay watch for seller reputation and reviews seller used fed ex but packaging was ok compared to say rapps... there are some vendors on here that are on aquabid you could go with check vendor forum and pm them... Main thing is communication between you and the seller shipping is always a pain $$$ but worth it in the end GL with your purchase....

I've used AB. In fact, the Phoenix area MFK'ers use it quite a bit, and I think we've all had good luck overall. It's always cool when you can get someone to go in on an order with you so you can split the shipping.

If you do only buy from people in your country, dont trust trans shippers, there not all bad but most look to charge a rediculous middleman fee. I got a ok deal from a thai breeder on a red texas 2 small kamfa and a AAA quality 8" female kampfa. Took over 30 day before they shipped, the fish werent fed in that time, and my paypal insurance time period ran out. Had them shipped to a trans shipper 45min drive from me as to not have them reshipped and was told by the seller that if i picked them up there would be no fees because shipping is included to the states. When i finally se my fish i can see that they are all starving i mean rediculous somalian staving. I am getting ready to leave and the trans shipper/ owner of nice flowerhorn fish store, and also thai. Tells me ok let me ring you up, we have an argument in wich i show him the saved posts and emails claiming no fee for pickup. He refuses to give me my fish unless i pay him 200 dollars. At this point i was ready to burst. He claimes thats what he had to pay at thre airport. I had waited over 30 days recieved sick fish and was being extorted. I had only 90 dollars in my pocket that he happily took and gave me my fish. Golden aquatic garden, elmhurst ny, kevin you suck. I have spent well over 500 dollars at his store prior to this situation. I have no issue with thai people in any way but this guy was biast would treat me awkwardly and when any asian person cam in he would becom a different person. Ive learned my lessons the hard waystick to reputibale dealers, here on mfk, or people like jeff rapps, and cichlids of the americas, aquabid is good for people that are reputible in wichever country you live, im guessing the US, many mfk ers post on aquabid and you can verify who you are doing buisness with

The large AAA female died a horrible death 3 weeks later due to her starvation thanks chomboriman and aquagold

Best advice is to know the reputation of the person you are buying fish from. If you are looking for bargains on fish, join a local aquarium society. Get fish from fellow members or through auctions run by most fish clubs. Here are some of the fish societies in Michigan:

Grand Valley Aquarium Club
Greater Detroit Aquarium Society
Michigan Cichlid Association (MCA)
Michigan Guppy Breeders
Michigan Killifish Association
Motor City Aquarium Society
Southwestern Michigan Aqurarium Society
