Hey, I dont mean to steal your thread, but i think it would be stupid to make another one about the remora. Im thinking about purchasing the aquac remora pro version finally, but which pump (rio 1400 vs mad 3) should be best and is the pre skimmer attacment worth it?

I believe the mag 3 is rated to be better for that skimmer. The attachment is definitely a good thing to have. The highest percentage of organics are located at the surface of the water and having that box will allow you to get the best stuff for skimming into your skimmer and remove from the aquarium water.

Ok thank you nonstophoops, so I'll be going for both the mag and the attachment piece btw, is thier away to hide the pump in the tank? I have a feeling a mag pump is gonna be pretty big....

The pre filter/ surface attachment goes around the pump if I am not mistaken. Its basically an overflow that feeds the pump. I am not sure on this but hopefully someone who knows for sure will chime in.

I would have gotten the Mag3 for mine if I were buying new but I bought used off of a local guy.

Yea the box covers the pump. It makes it look better but the box is rather large for the PRO model.

I have been debating getting the surface skimmer box for myself, but everything i've read online says it wasn't worth it. I'd like to get get some feedback from someone on here. If you get it let us know how it works for you

for some reason my aqua c with maxijet 1200 never really impressed me. even with the cup all the way down it takes well over a week to fill up, if it even does at all. maybe it has nothing to skim. we will find out, im adding a second skimmer, tunze 9002. im adding it to my sump. ive cleaned it a few times so it definately not dirty. and i clean the cup out 2 times a week.

Also depends on the quality of skimmate...mine was very wet, but skimmed a medium color. (I like doing this, because you are getting EVERYTHING.)

In addition, skimmers can definitely run out of stuff to skim.

When I put my EV400 on my 125g the first three days it went crzy.

After that it completely stopped until I started my vodka dosing like two days later.

I think it literally pulled everything there was to pull.

I don't know what another explanation would be, but I don't believe this. In a tank like yours, with your stocking level and the way you feed, it never should run out of stuff to skim. You have as many fish in your tank as I do in mine, and mine never runs out of stuff to skim. Some days it seems to make more skimmate then others though.

as for my system. i am overstocked and feed 2 times a day. i shouldnt run out of stuff to skim either.

It is designed to skim four times the volume of my tank.

There also werent as many fish in tank.

Granted, sometimes you will have to tinker a little.
