I kept my pimas in a 800 for the first year. When they reach 32" you will need to move them to a bigger tank just like John advises.

The pacus get pretty big and will need the bigger tank also. Mine are a few pounds either side of 40.
Here are couple of mine rememeber the glass panels are 36" wide by 60inches high. the tank is 9 feet deep, 36 feet long and 27 feet wide L shaped.

Now i know better...

wow, nice thread....!

don't feed them just koi and goldfish! feed them healthy stuff so disease/thiamin deficiency doesnt happen a 2nd time.

goldfish are not good 4 any predator fish..my paiche ate various but never goldfish..

Biggest i have is about 24 inches. They are definately gentle giants. I have them with much smaller fish and they never bother them.

pima are gentle and highly curiosity intent..sometimes can be funny lol..

Any body out there with Arapaima ???????????

let's gather The G.O.F ...

Hi everyone!
I realise the size of a fish depends partly on how well it feeds. However, on the average, how old would a 7 inch long baby Arapaima probably be?
Thanks for your help.

This thread was a good read.

I almost bought an arapaima once, I was going to put it into a large indoor pond and grow it out and keep moving it into larger and larger ponds. I was crazy then.
Someday I will own a Pima though, and this thread has helped me.
