I'm in the process of building a 6000 liter fish tank. The footprint is 12 x 5 x 4 or there abouts my question is can I keep a arapaima to max size in this tank

First up - Interesting that you found one in Aus.

I'd say you can keep it to the length that the tank is wide. IIRC they're not terribly flexible?

That's big tank. Great. This will be ok for arapaima. Biger the beter is rule here but if fish can swim water parameters are top i don't see any issues. Some keep them in 50k gallons some in smaller. Like i say abowe...

Max size for a arapaima can be 15', so I would guess not, it's an awesome size tank though, will be able to keep a large arowana or two. What are you building it out of?

Your tank has a nice foot print so yes in theory you can keep a fish as big as arapaima. But in reality you are asking to keep the largest freshwater fish in this tank. This fish can get 5 feet easy with correct parameters. So 12 feet is not much for a full length swim.

That is going to be awesome, please post pics.
Your tank dimensions are great for three foot fish. If you haven't started yet and are set on an arapaima you might want to go wider so he can turn around when grown. Just my thoughts. 6000 liters is 1500-1600 gallons so either way it is going to be sweet
