just wondering. I'm going to be decking my place in black lights for a halloween party, and i'm not sure if i wanna put one in my fish tank or not (piranhas, so they'd be cool to see). the regular florescent light (even with some foil underneath), just kinda gives off a little too much light.

anyone know? or has anyone had experience with a black light party? because, i'm unsure of what to do... i also kinda want to string some purple xmas lights around for added light, but will that take away from the UV effect?

The black lights shouldn't hurt the fish. Water is very effective at stopping UV light, so only the purple light will actually reach the fish.

They will be fine. Only thing id be worried about is people messing with the tank if the party gets out of hand.

thanks for the response... that is one thing i don't think i'll have to worry about though. i already have so many friends thinking that their hand would be eaten if they stuck it in... and of course, is wrong...

lol , right on. Have a good party

take a picture if it ends up looking cool! I bet it'd look eerie with purple silhouettes :D

i'll make sure to do so! i'm really excited about this party, and just wanted to make sure my piranha tank was seen...

I've actually done that just messing around once, and believe it or not it made the tank look really weird. It's almost like it lit up the algea in the water, it took on a greenish tint, I don't remember what the fish did, but it sure did mess with the looks of the tank.
