Are black lights bad for fish/aquariums? (having a black light party)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
one more important question... i have a plexiglass top on my aquarium, and black lights get very hot. should i stick a piece of glass or something between the two? or maybe just put the glass top on somehow...

The low-wattage long-wave black lights used for entertainment purposes are safe for short-term use in aquariums. But, you'll want to use a micron-filter since diatoms, many algaes, etc. will refract the black light and can make viewing the fish nearly impossible. Do NOT use any type of geological short-wave UV lamp since these can blind and burn your fish. Not to mention that these lamps will also harm any party guests that direct the light towards their eyes and skin.

hey man sorry i cant make it and i did not text you back but i think that black lights will be sweet!

Yeah. It's amazing how many different colors appear on the human body in the darkness with a blacklight. My wife and I did that two days ago. We found yellows, neon orange, purple and even green.

 When I was 18 me and my buddy rented a townhouse and for a party once we got a ton of blacklights. And yes I definitely saw a womans body in a different way. Very fun experience as I recall.
