Are cichlids evolved from saltwater fish?

also in my experience as a fisherman, green sunfish spawn in a similar fasion. kind of a mix of substrate spawning and mouth brooding cichlids. The pair lays their eggs in a pit first, (like mouth brooders) but they just leave them there and guard them like substrate spawners.
I performed DNA electrophoresis on Texas cichlids, bass and sunfish back in 1995 and found that the sunfish and Texas genome were very similar (only a few bands different) and that the bass wasn’t too far off either.

cool!
my only problem with texas cichlids (i mean not a problem with the fish itself) is that they have a bad reputation in america.
For one they're the only native cichlid to the US (correct? hence the name 'texas')
but people ignore that, or don't know about it, and think they're just like the midas in florida. Invasive species that must be killed. That's my issue. Basically anyone you find on youtube fishing for them is making that video to be like "hey i'm helping the environment!! i just caught and killed 3 breeding pairs."
anyway, with damselfish in saltwater- especially clownfish-
they way they behave in comparison to cichlids is very similar. Clownfish especially.
They lay their eggs on rocks and the parents protect/fan them. clownfish also lip lock like cichlids.
(i tried looking up a picture for this but found this *instead)
