I caught dozens of madtoms by the slimy handful one day and got poked a lot, but never felt any pain. Later, I found out that a supposed remedy for a catfish sting is to rub the slimecoat into the wound. This sounds very fishy to me (this pun also intended) because it implies a toxin-antidote relationship on a singular surface, and because rubbing open wounds across bacteria-laden catfish skin is advice not to be given. Having said this, my stings never hurt that day and the only explanations I can fathom lie between natural immunity, odd catfish conditions (the irrigations ditch was being drained at the time and the water was terrible) or...I don't know.

there are some catfish sp. that are poisonous however I'm too lazy to google it up I know of one that I just read recently that oozes out white stuff out in one of the amazon river parts... just can't recall which one

I know that when i was little and fishing with my grandpa, if I got poked by a bullhead or something that he always said to rub where you got poked on the fish's belly. It was probably all mental/placebo though, but it did seem to help

Most catfish are venomous to some degree, with exceptions like plecos, electric cats and doradids. Some, like the Asian stinging cat (H. fossilis) and the Marine cat (P. lineatus) can be dangerous, even potentially lethal to humans.

I used to have a coral cat in my 55. Neat fish but they are said to get about a foot. Mine only got maybe 5 inches then it died. :(

Just as a point of reference:
Venomous means the animal is capable of injecting you with a toxin.
Poisonous means consuming the animal is toxic to you.
