Are there any fish that will lower or help lower ammonia levels?

Did you add new fish to it or just start feeding way too much? Overcrowding would not affect ammonia, it just affects nitrates as long as it is not a bunch of fish put in all at one time. The beneficial bacteria eat as much ammonia as there is as long as it is fed the amounts and allowed to grow and establish a colony, which is what happens in a cycled tank.

If you drop say 10 oscars in a 10 gallon one day the ammonia will spike because there is more bioload added too quickly for the tank to establish the bigger colony, but it will eventually as long as the fish don't die..

As a previous poster said I would invest in a python, depending on how far you are from where you throw your water out it would make your life a lot easier, just get a siphon going and make sure the water is going in the hole.. then attach it to a faucet, again if possible.
