Are there different types of managuense cichlid? I saw a Managuenes in a seprate tank at 2.5 to 3" in length while the rest in the other tank were golden brown at 2", he was sliver and black with bluish black fins and white spots. It was beautiful it was one of those fish that I have to have. But instead of making an impulse buy I figure I would do some research. The girl at the fish store said well these are jag managuens (the gold color ones) and this is a different type I don't know what type. She is usually pretty knowledgeable but I think she is wrong this time. I should have taken pics but if I go back for pics I will most likely come back with the fish.

Maybe its a juvenule Dovii and she doesn't know the difference? There is however a gold variant of the Jaguar cichlid. I attached a picture if a juvie dovii for reference.

This is my juvenile standard managuense cichlid. In the pictures it is very dark colored in its fins. When it is was he doubt or not confident his fins start looking blue.

These are the type I am used to seeing. the other looks just like it but silver/white instead of gold and blue fins. I thought possible dovi as well but its got the black cheek markings. marking are more jag.

How long before a Jag will outgrow a 75 gallon?

wow they grow fast.

That's just my opinion, most males will be around 10-12 inches in a year or so and will really fill a 75.my 13 inches male fills my 125 quite nicely and I couldn't picture him in a 75

Do they tend to be active swimming around or are they more stationary. I am really thinking about getting him but the last thing I want is a single fish that just sits at the bottom.
