I met a bloke recently who is downsizing his ray collection as he’s gonna be moving interstate next year. Short story is that based on the size of my tank and the healthy look of my 3 rays, he is donating his pure black diamond male to me to add to my collection. It was purchased from PF in 2022, is rolled and ready, and 14” disc width. Driving to pick it up next week!
Here’s a few pics. First 2 are recent. 2nd are for sale image and newly received at his home. I’m amazed at his generosity, and stoked to add this guy to my collection 🤩

Thanks mate, truly awesome! My set up is very plain, pool sand substrate & otherwise bare. I was encouraged, since rays are very powerful and move decor around, to leave it bare. For now that is the plan since breeding is my goal in addition to enjoyment 👍🏼
This vid is a few months old now;

The sand always looks great with rays I think, I just worry about them eating it. Though I do know they love to bourogh

Apparently they love eating snails. My guys spend the day sucking in and spitting out sand all over the footprint of the tank. I had a few snails in there from when I had African cichlids…only some in the sump now, none in the main tank 🤪
I have no concern re them eating the sand. They live in sandy silty environments in the wild so swallowing substrate is just part of life for a bottom dwelling bottom feeding aquatic animal.
