I am confused, I have been looking up legality's of owning a Arowana in the US and I am having a hard time figuring out if they are Legal or Illegal to own in America. I was thinking it would be cool to have one in my
7x4x2 I am building this summer but now I am not sure if they are legal to own or not. I see one page says if farm breed yes, then another that says no lol...which is it haha.

Any one have any definite information on this?

Silver, and black/blue aros only are legal in the us...oh and jardini.

Alaska is pretty relaxed on keeping fish for pets (unless native to the state, big no no) same with reptiles as long as not venomous. I actually seen an Arowana for sale on Craigslist a few months ago but just because it was on craigslist doesnt make it legal lol. Thanks for the replies, I will look into the Silver and black/blue Arowana's and double check local regulations to see if they list them as Illegal to own.

Asians, all of them are illegal in all states.

You can add Leichardti ( australian ) to the legals.

Don't know about Florida, though...

I was just curios. I always thought they were pretty cool but from what I read it sounds like the South Americans need a fairly low PH (6.0 I read) and my water is 8.0 out of the tap so I may not even try with these guys.

Easy....can try using RO water with the necessary trace elements, or alternatively can use some good buffering products like Seachem Neutral/Acid Regulator.
