this is my chem teacher 300 gallon tank and just skip the end, in the description it shows all the fish.

Behaviour of Asian arowanas and SA arowanas is completly diffrent. Asians are MUCH more agressive.

Those in the video's are silver aro's much more suitable for tank mates not really aggressive at all to each other or other species , but that tanks WAY to small for a pair of them hope your chem teacher has a pond build on the go!

Good thing I found this thread..
Everything was working smoothly until I needed to separate the RTG for a little over a month or so to treat him for a bacterial infection. When he went back into the tank, he seemed to forgot he used to play nice with the cichlids and seems to have grown a particular dislike for 4 of the cichlids that are currently always hidding behind driftwood. They come out to eat but are immediately chased back to their holes.
Could be temporary...or not.
The lesson is even in big tanks (10x4') things can turn real quick.

Interesting to hear Joao. My friends red also developed it's nasty streak while in isolation when he shifted house and built a new tank. Before then it would tolerate other fish with a bit of mild aggression, but after spending a couple of months in a 150g by itself it decided it wasn't going to put up with other large mid-swimming fish, even in an 8x4 tank.

He probably got a taste for being dominate while separated,

My 6" HBRTG been tolerant of its tankmates (5 filament barbs, 5 clown loaches, delhezi birchir) but sometimes chases my IT Datnoid. It's been chasing it every now and then but I've set my tank to have lots of hiding places and my datnoid is quite speedy to evade the arowana. I don't recommend the isolation trick as most aggressive fish become more territorial if left by itself (as it gets used to being alone and getting spoiled) but from what I've experienced and read about arowana tankmates is that it is normally a hit and miss thing when setting these guys up with tankmates

I've got a golden supreme hb rtg coming in July adding to my 220 with a 5 inch electric blue jack dempsey 3 dats and a festea (red terror) all around 4 inches my aro is coming in at 6-8 so I'm told also a few loaches

Wow 6 months have passed since my las post in this thread... time for an update.

I had to remove the 3 of the 4 cichlids in question. With the 4th one (big midevil female) things got back to normal in time.

So, the current population of the tank ( 10´x4´x28" ~ 666g) with the 22" RTG is (eyeballing the sizes):

1. Cichlids
a) Female Midevil (12-13")
b) Male tue parrot (10-11")
c) Male "red isletas" (8")
d)Female Friedrichstalli (10")
e) Male Jaguar (8-9")
f) Synspillum pair (7-8")
and two hybrids that were borne in the tank and somehow survived at, around 1-2"

2. Other
a) 3 banded leporinus (6", 9"and 10")
b) Clarias batrachus/walking catfish (13-14")
c) L001 pleco (6-7")
d) L 191 panaque (7")
e) flagtail (7-8")

This combo is working ( for the time being...)
