If your after a similar kind of cat that stays small that’s quite a bit friendlier then you won’t go far wrong with a bolt catfish. Max out at 14” and are tank mate friendly with a decent pattern. If you really want a hemibagrus then go for h. Olyroides, although you are looking at a smaller size still.

I have a friend with a bolt and it is more like 18 inches and he can't keep it with anything, the local (ish) shop has several at the moment but i am very reluctant to try one.

Actually having just reviewed pictures of the bolt and vulture i think he has the vulture and i will have to look again at the shop bolt as they may actually be vulture.

Bolt are much, much more calm and friendly than the vulture cat. Bolt won’t be seen taking chunks out of anyone. Vulture most certainly will at some point.

They are so rarely seen around here that most (me included) seem to think they are the same fish, i will definitely have another look at the shop and check they are the right ones.

This is agreeable but I thought I'd augment with my experience that our bolt were not friendly to some tank mates in 240 gal (even mid-water swimming) while being relaxed in 4500 gal and that our vultures have only been ever interested in attacking dead tank mates or those freaking out, or bleeding, or both.
