Awesome Eel mate.
My old Long fin eel was 3 1/2 foot long, I ended up releasing him as he was to big for my tank.
I caught him when he was about 30cms long.

well, 'eric the eel' turned out to be a pain in the bum - it dug, ripped out burried air lines and plants and then got half out of the tank - I decided to put it out in the pond, so into a bucket and half way across the lounge room it jumped out and headed for the bedroom!! a slimy wrestle later and we had it back in the bucket and swiftly out in the pond, Here's some pics of it anyway - I couldn't see it one morninig - it was under the gravel!

Outside in the pond with no lids does he stays in the pond?
busy converting my pond in a shed into not coldwater with heaters but eels takes both had 1 before but sold it had smaller tank back then

I would get it some PVC pipes so that it can hide in it.
Awesome fish, but eels can be a real pain as they seem to LOVE escaping from their tanks. I had an eel that died like that.. I have heard numerous other stories of people losing eels the same way.
