Australian Tandanus Eel Tailed Catfish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They get big, I have heard close to 1mtr but I haven’t personally seen one that big.
Mine grew pretty quick and outgrew a 3foot tank quickly, as for tankmates they are peacetful but will munch anything that can fit in their mouth. Mine never disturbed any plants.
I loved my one had it from 3cms up to around 20cms before I revoked it, was sad to see it go but it needed more space. Get one if you have a big enough tank, chuck in some earthworms and soon it will literally be eating out of your hand.

Cheers mate, just been looking through some of the sites you recommended but there’s not much on these guys online. One article I read said they can be used in dams as pest fish control indicating that they are fairly predatory. If I was to get one I don’t want it eating my fire eels if it grows faster than them. But at a meter long and stocky I don’t think I could keep it fully grown.

Got a tandanus with the turtles. Growing like a beast. Pretty hard to kill.

Got some other species of eel tails as well. smallest max size is about 15cm for some species, whilst others get upwards of 2ft

I was considering getting a Black Ghost Knife as well but would they cross electroception as having more than 2 BGK? I’ll have a grounding probe within the tank anyway lol 😂

Is it just Tandanus Tandanus that you are looking at as there are other eeltail cats of similar families which are much smaller and should be found in Australian waters too such as neosilurus ater (18”) and a number even smaller ones.
I’m not aware that eel tail cats have electroception organs.
