ball python wont eat white mice

ok well this is what your going to have to do to get the ball python to eat.

1. get hampsters from the guy you got it from.

2. sent the mouse with the hampster.

the reason the snake is not eating the mice is because it is not use to the smell of the mice, mice and hampsters let off different chemical scents, and if the snake was raised on hampsters thats the scent that will trigger the mouse into food mode. so you do that good luck or go buy some hampsters and breed them and feed them to your snake.

know its kinda late but have several snakes too. I f you dont want to try breeding or switching to hampsters. Try popping the mouses head open with a knife, getting the brain matter outside adds a whole lot of extra smell to entice the snake. I had to do this for a few feedings with a amazon tree boa i had.

Kind of did what the above user did. Except didn't cut the head open, just let it thaw a bit in the room. I let the ceramic heat lamp I had do some of the warming. Snake was ready for it due to the pre-scenting and hit it. May also have to make the mouse do the dance since it is thawed to make it look live.

Also, and this may actually be the problem why your snake won't eat, but your husbandry looks to be a tad off. One thing is the snake did not shed completely, indicating a lack of humidity. They don't always complete shed but there shouldn't be much left on. If the shed was more of a complete one piece than humidity is more on, however if it's patches here and there it is for sure off. Another thing is you are to have a warm and a cold side. Been a while since I kept ball pythons but I want to say I was 80 some on cold side and 90ish on warm. 75-80 won't cut it. Do you have two identical hides in the tank as well?

Thawing them is something that i always do. Maybe im overprotective or something but i dont want my cold blooded reptile eating something cold. For feeding i have a coffee mug that i put water in amd microwave till its good and warm and place the mice to thaw and heat up in there for 5-10 min. If your still having trouble with feeding, give that a shot will heat the mouse up and release extra scents to give as realistic a feeding without using live.
