my mate had one in their. killed it because it got too big. i would ming haiving one in 20x15x4Hmetre tank.

I think that 20mx15mx4m is a little extreme thats larger than most puplic aquariums.
I agree that it is very anoying seeing people asking can i keep a barra in a 55G or smaller and then moaning that 150 and 180G are expensive even though those are still far too small but most people, especially on here will plan ahead and make sure they are housed properly, then we get to look at their amazing monster tanks:D
I have a 4" Nile perch in a 4x2x2 but i have a 100"x30"x30" for it when it reaches 12" or so and even before i got the perch i was planning on upgradeing to a 10x3x3 very soon so that will keep the perch happy until it reaches 30"+ or so which will be a little while, while it is living in the 10x3x3 i plan to have a tropical house with a huge tropical pond built so mine will not suffer!!!!!

can we stay on topic please. and can we also not say stupid things. if you wanna make jokes or have a chat on uunrelated things go to the lounge. this is a serious thread where people can discuss health fitness, feeding tank size and lots of over things.

and btw although there may be many genetic stocks of barramundi they all fall under one species so saying that one from aparticular is that drastically different is crap.

It is on topic, and is an actual fact mate.

cammo nothing i can do the site i got it off had that as writing not a true table. and when i transfered stuff here it messed i will actually do a small table in excel or something

Okay so in a promise to make a thread devoted to barramundi with on topic discussion only i will update this continuously hopefully it will become a sticky and replace the chit chat threads. So today ill do one of a series of posts about barramundi larvae. today i will be focusing on there diet, and although i will provide information on wild larvae i will keep it in a more knowledgeable field of mine to do with aquaculture and fish keeping. So first of all lets do some wok on what larvae actually is.

So for you who are not aware of a barramundi's upbringing/early stages are here goes:

Eggs>Larvae>hatchling/fingerlings etc and there is about 10 different stages before they reach adulthood. At this point in time there irrelevant. So we now know that larvae are the stage after the eggs.

Heres some photos of large larvae thees are very easy to identify; however a lot of larvae will look similar like gudgeon and silver perch larvae eg.

Now you may ask if they're big what do they eat when they're small. They eat a range of things in the wild a lot of which we would not know however micro foods such as artemia, rotifers other larvae etc would be the most common stuff. So in aquaculture they would feed artemia (brine shrimp) but they only use the good stuff. They will constantly be swimming in there food in an aquaculture unit. they will them grow on to eat rotifers and in aquaculture they will then feed barramundi artificial micro foods. These are effectively pellets but way better and are extremely small (80 microns). great stuff but very expensive.

So this completes the first bit of a series of posts to do with barramundi larvae. if you disagree with something point it out im not all that ends all. All this info to my knowledge is correct. Any questions?
