please dont use 1/4" glass for 24"tall tank, how did you guys miss that?, go out and spend the $400 on 1/2" glass...

otherwise it looks like its going to be a sweet tank...

what are you sealing it with on the inside?

He actually said it's 3' tall, wiuth a 28 inch window (even worse!). 3/8 won't cut it, even with a center brace. Minimum recommended WITH a center brace is 1/2, and even then, unless you're doing more than one layer of 3/4 ply for all your framing, you're pushing it.

I should have done this before; maybe this will help with ideas. The windows can be made smaller of course, which would therefore increase the strength of the braces.:)

p.s I forgot to shrink the pic; I tried to delete it but could't. If one of the mods could delete it, I will shrink and repost later. sorry guys-duh

Maybe rather go for something like this.
If you have your water level at the same level as the top of your window, you could use 2 x 3/8" glass panes, and sleep assured at night.

With the pic/design you posted, you'll need 2 3/8" windows at the bottom and 1/4" windows at the top. I'll sleep very lightly with that design though...

Plus remember, you're gonna keep this tank for a long time. You don't want to look back in 3 months time and think "maybe I should have spent that $100 extra..."

Almost all dimensioned lumber is kiln dried, air dried is just not an option anymore in this day in age.
You haven't been to my local HomeDepot. Kiln dried is the rare exception. I swear a 2x4x8' holds at least a gallon of water!

I made some progress today; found some nice glass at the Home store, a Habitat for Humanities offshoot. The glass is 36" in diameter; the opening is 32". The front windows will be approx. 36" x 40", with a nice size brace in the middle...
