I honestly would not recommend getting the fx5, I've read some bad reviews on them about not being able to last more than 3 years. They also are unable to filter out smaller particles because of the sponges and clog fast if you try to use a fine filter pad. Try an xp4 or eheim 2260 but the eheim might be out of your budget.

If YOU havent used a product, YOU shouldn't make reccomendations on for or against it. Give the FACTS about the item, and leave it at that.

I did give a fact about the item:D
And who said I didn't use this product before? I've had use this product before, its a very strong filter and cheap but there is some things about it I didn't like.

There are many different filters to choose from. IMO the best would be a large sump(as long as you have the room). A large sump will give you increased water volume which increases water quality. You can put the heaters in the sump so less clutter in the tank. Also probably the cheapest filter to build, check out the DIY forums. The only issue I have is relying on a single filter for the tank, what happens if the return pump breaks down. So I would run another filter for redundancy.

Fair enough. I agree with the part you mentioned. Works great as a biofilter though, and mines been running since late 2004 now and I don't see it slowing.

Not at all. I'm in the wrong and have no problem admitting it.

Truthfully, Id switch my Fx5 and two Fluval 405s for a sump system though. However I find most sumps to be just large enough to be a filter, I want it large enough to add a good amount of water to the system too.

So true, 300 gallon tank and a 300 gallon sump:headbang2
