If you are going to feed pellets (which I do for my cichlids and goldies), then feed something better than Hikari. It's garbage. Northfin and NLS are two very good brands with lots of different formulas.
this is what I was actually looking for, just wanted to also know if there were better pellet brands than hikari

im looking for sinking larger pellets for my fish, I might snag myself a box of large pellets from NLS unless the carnivore or jumbo formula from northfin is better. I honestly havent a clue to what specifics i should be looking for in pellets.

I see that Northfin carnivore has a higher conc in crude protein and fat than the jumbo but i honestly havent a clue on what that entails for the consumer

It seems that fluval bug bites are often quoted as being higher in protein than a lot of other options, some blends up to 46% apparently. But like you say, i dont know if that necessarily makes it a better option for your particular fish.

NLS insectum is very popular with my fish but is not any higher in protein than the others, just a good option to mix it up imo though.

I forgot to mention Bug Bites - also a very good quality food. My 12" male Midas loves them.
