Best plecos to breed?

I'm in the process of trying to raise and breed L333's, have plans to set up L411's and L46's also L397. They are addictive for sure but not to difficult to breed. Patience and clean water and good feed, caves, Temp above 82 and eventually they will breed I have several breeders around me that makes it look easy...

Hi

I have started looking at my first plecos to start breeding. I will start by keeping them in a 55 gallon with peaceful Barb's and danios and then get a seperate breeding tank later however I am not sure which plecos to start with.

1. L177 Golden Nugget plecos
These are very popular so I know they will sell and also very beautiful to look at. They also clean some algae, don't grow to big (20cm) and are relatively cheap.

2. GOLDLINE L333 King Tiger Plecs
These I have seen before and are costly. They normal variant seems popular but I have never seen a GOLDLINE so I am sure they will sell. They need a carnivorous diet and don't eat algae however don't grow as big (15cm).

3.Blue Phantom Pleco
These eat algae, look cool and are inexpensive. They also don't grow to big (15cm) and are decently popular.

I struggling to choose as they are all so sexy ?

Thanks,

Personally I would go with the blue phantom but that's just me being biased towards them. If you wanted something a lil bit cheaper but has a similar look to the gold nugget this one would be a good replacement imo, L183 starlight bristlenose.

Blue Phantom - one of my favorites for its work ethic in my tanks...

Like the looks of the L - 134

Bristlenose, either l144s, green dragons, or normals
Not longfin, they grow too slow

Dang, I was thinking of starting easy and breeding super red longfin bristlenose. People say they are easy to breed and are pretty rare.

How long does it take for normal bristlenose to grow and how long for the longfin variety?

normal bristlenose, on a good diet, should hit sexual maturity (around 2.5 inches) in a couple months, the longfins around a year
super red longfins take about 2 years to barely get 2 inches, hence the rarity and price
they also don't completely breed true, you'll get some standard fins, some marbles, and some normal colored fish

I think that's fine for me, tbh the ones I'm getting are already 3 inches. Also, I'm more interested in the breeding and keeping prospect of it, not the money.

I could get standard super reds which are half the price but i can't decide. If I would get the longfin super red, they would 4 for £160. I could get 8 super reds for that but I feel that the longfin variety is more rare and cool for me.

What would you do? Thanks for info?

Following this thread. A lot of good suggestions here. I too want to step my game up with different pleco species. I’m leaning toward l134/l397/l200(Baryancistrus demantoides) just have to see what I can get my hands on as far as pairs go.

Please keep this thread updated with the species you decide on and how your success goes!
