Hi all,

I have a tank full of guppies (although, it didn't start that way!) and was looking for something to bring some interest to the tank. I've long wanted a Betta Splendens (Siamese Fighting Fish) but I wasn't really sure if I could put the two together, I'm a bit worried the Betta will attack the male guppies.

Are they smart enough to know what another Betta looks like, so leaving the guppies alone? Or should I just avoid the pairing all together?

Thanks in advance! ;)

Louis.

i tried...... didnt go well.
woke up one morning and saw 2 dead male guppy`s.... 1 of them inside the lid( out of the water) guess it was ww3 down there that night.
Wouldent do it if i were you

Guppies can be fin nippers don't bother putting them together. Start another tank for your Betta, you'll both be happier.

And get a little diver that is bubble powered to liven up the guppies. :D

Or a couple of convicts.

B. splendens tend to attack anything that looks like another fighting fish. Male guppies fall into that. Basically any fish with lots of finnage. Closely related species are often fought with as well.

I'm not sure about this, but a killifish might work. Again, not to sure about this.

I do not reccomend putting a betta in with a fish with long flowing fins. Bettas tend to be fin nippers. I also do not reccomend putting fin nippers in with bettas fish such as Tiger Barbs, Danios ETC Bettas can be put in a tropical community though.

throw in a green terror or maybe an alligator gar and watch the fun
No don't do that.

guppies are nippers as are bettas, the colour of the guppies will also make the betta fight them (usually) so I'd so a no
