Bichir with red swollen stomach!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Sorry to hear that. Did you take the Bichir out. Place the Poly in something with the water low so it won't struggle to get air.
Agreed. Bichirs need to have easy access to top water air supply. Also if possible I would dim the lights in the tank and room to reduce stress on the fish as they are mainly nocturnal.

Anything else I should probably do immediatly?
The most important thing is to make certain the fish is in its one quarantine tank to prevent further infection of the other fish as it is a viral infection. Once in quarantine treat with the treatments mentioned earlier, along with making certain the fish has easy access to air and the lights are dimmed. The next step is to sit down and calm yourself while preparing to wait it out. It will take time for the virus to run its course and there is no guarantee that it will survive but since it isn't a juvi it has a much higher chance of survival. Don't be concerned with iratic swimming behavior as it is just a symptom of the virus.

Well that's sad to hear. Always sucks losing a pet. But atleast hopefully none of the others in the tank will have the same problem now. That's the worst thing about these viral infections is it's not about losing just 1 pet it's about losing them all. But as a precaution I would recommend getting some general cure and putting it into the main tank.
