Just to clarify I use a service dog(the dog in my avatar) to help me get around and I'm used to most of the reactions I get when people see me with her. Buuuuuut, I just had a very odd experience at the grocery store. Things started out normal enough though. I went to the grocery store, grabbed a basket, and walked over to the produce section.

That is when things got really weird. There was a heavy set woman in her mid thirties or early forties about 25 feet across the produce section from me. We were the only two people in the area.

When she saw Daizy, my dog, she leaned on the cart she was pushing, stood on one leg, and hissed at us like a cat. This wasn't quiet either. The people at the registers about 40 feet away or so started staring. She did this for a good fifteen seconds or so until I asked if she was ok. Then she looked upset at me and walked away.

Sometimes you meet someone and they make you glad to be you. :)

She has a dog phobia and that was here way of surviving the trauma and stress of having your canine in her vicinity.

i have a spider phobia but ive found that hissing at them doesnt do much

does your dog bark or get agressive on command? Noo I'm not saying that's what I would've done, not inside the store anyway, but I've wondered if service dogs are taught that.

Really,do you think that it is because spiders can't hear or are they just not bothered by the hissing?

Was this at Wal-mart?
