black aquarium sand recommendations? (freshwater)

You'd be surprised at how black sand will 'swallow up' that small percent of white. If you went 80/20 people would think it solid black..it would look gritty. I used to test all kinds of cool effects with sand sample kits.

I do all black with most tanks, with the exception of fish that display white colors. My Haitian and Cuban males both went dark and stayed dark. I've added a mix of Lapis Luster into my BDBS which helped both species lighten up quite a bit. I plan on going even heavier on the natural sand at some point though to get their whites nice and bright again.
