Is it worth getting a black arowana when you already have an adult silver? will it lose colour as it grows bigger?

u add anothe arrowana species so in my opinion it is good but yes black tend to lose there colour a bit as they grow adult

they lose there color yes but i think its worth it i have 18" black with 20" HS silver

look, black arowanas are blue for a few months, then they loose the blue color and become black, and then it starts fading

true, thanx guys. thing is black aros are pretty expensive in this part of the world. A 3 inch guy is like 180 US dollars :S when u can get a much larger silver for about 12 Dollars, so if i pool in a bit more i can get an RTG instead of a black, but non of the aquariums here have RTG's at the moment, just my luck..

yeah it would if you have the tank to house 1

IMO, silvers and blacks are pretty similar, just like tinfoil and platinum. (if you get what I mean ;))
No one can tell you if its "worth it" to buy a fish. I'd pay $180US for a black aro in a heartbeat, but thats just me, I prefer the shape of the blacks to asian/australian but I'd never own a silver because I feel drop eye ruins the look of them.

Don't worry about the cost of the fish, with any aro you're going to have a big outlay for the tank and equipment regardless of whether the fish cost $12 or $1200. Spending $200+ on a fish compared to $20 is minimal is you spread it out over the lifetime of the fish and the enjoyment you get out of it. $200 spread out over 5 years is only around 10 cents a day, thats not much to pay for the enjoyment of being able to stand in front of your tank and stare at a beautiful rtg or black instead of looking at a big common old silver with drop eye thinking 'gee I wish I'd spent a little bit more'....
[no disrespect to anyone keeping silvers!]

No, they start black, then after two or three months change to blue, then their blues get brighter and highlighted with other colors and after years, slowly begins to fade- and even then, the blacks are more colorful than silvers- plus no drop eye is a big plus-
But they are more fragile as juveniles, and can be more difficult to get to eat- but well worth it over silvers
