blacks start out black then become blue then become grayish

Yeah, what they said (especially David R). I am suprised that no one said it yet, but typically, aros don't do well in pairs. Singles or three or more is best. Also, if I understand right, you have an adult silver and want to add a three inch black? I see that lasting a total of four seconds at best ( I hope I misunderstood this part). 180 isn't bad for a black. I paid a little over 2 for mine about 2 years ago. I saw one in an lfs this week for 3.

singles work the best, pairs arent too bad, triples are safer than pairs but more than 4 is safest besides singles

Singles work best, anything past that is just pure chance.

kinda funny but i use to have a 10" black with a 2-3" silver n things work out nice

haha no way, the silver jar and black are going to be in 3 different tanks! :D oh n i bought a black just now, he'll be home tomorrow, a 4incher :)

I have a black and think they are much better looking than silvers. Its 2 years old now & approx 2 foot lovely looking fish.

depends on how big is your tank. it's always good to mix and match if you can house a fish properly.

pictures please
