just had a look at the planetcatfish article and it says there are 3 other species which are similar in the same family a pic would help on this 1 i think if possible, there is also info on fishbase.org

sorry mate i cant post any pics, the guy was looking for a cat that only grew to 1ft and he was tould to get a lancer. thats when i said i thought i saw in one of my books that tay grew to 2ft.

There is two species that are very close to each other.

Bagrichthys hypselopterus is commonly mislabeled as the Black Lancer catfish and grows to that monster size. But this specimen is rarely imported anymore, at least according to my research. However, Dr. Fosters and Smith "sell" this fish and i have emailed them asking them to double check the species. They told me they would look into it, and as per usual i was ignored.

Bagrichthys macracanthus is the true Black lancer catfish and they grow to about 10". In my experience they grow very slow. Dont nip at other fish. I've even kept mine with angels. Does well with other types of catfish. Other Bagrids, dorids, and loricarids. Eats variety of foods and does not seem to be picky. However, i have been told that a very large tank is required for more than one to be kept as they are aggressive towards same sp. But I personally have not tried this.
