Not that i am aware of.

Lots of black, dark black, but not one total black Amphi...

In the cichlid hobby, there is a three main variants of Amphilophus sagittae. There is a black variant, a white variant (also known as xanthic) and third white-orange variant known as the “creamsicle”.

It's been a few years since I've seen any for sale but I've seen them for sale from time to time.

Yea, they look nice. The Midas at my LFS is more full on black than striped though with a definate Midas body shape. I'm away on business, when I return home I'll get a better look at him, if he's even still there??

Black Midas, Black Devil, just made up trade names. Ask the LFS to be more specific, if they can't then consider it an aquarium strain amphilophus.

No argument there, except with the gorillus one would generally be buying the fish from a trusted source, such as a fellow hobbyist, and not ones LFS where names and labels are often incorrect, especially with the genus amphilophus.

My pair of wild Midas bred about 2 months ago and been growing out the babies. But I do have a coke black ones if any one wants to buy some! There still a little small but give it a week or two.

But I never heard of black ones until mine had there fry!

Trying to get my 16 year old nephew to get the Black Midas. He has an empty 55 ready and waiting.....he seems more interested in a Gar that's being housed in the same tank at the lfs though. Upon further inspection, the Midas is barred, and a little more pale black than I originally thought. Face looks kinda female like to me, even though it pretty much seems to dominate the 75 even with much larger Oscars, the Gar, and a few large cats.
