First of all I would like to know if this is actually a black since my shop always mislabeles things. He is about 4.5 inches and has a 75 gallon pretty much to himself. I was thinking of adding some tank mates. Maybe something that moves other than feeding time. Any suggestions?image.jpeg image.jpeg View attachment 1155964

no its a common from the looks of these pictures, maybe another similar looking species but definitely not a black. As for tank mates, a jag can work, but it depends on the specific fish, also if you're looking for activity i don't think he'd be all that active either, maybe tinfoil barbs or balls or SDs for activity. As for tank mates, you can keep just about anything with them that won't become a meal or make the wolf a meal and can take the occasional aggression it may show.

Malabaricus likely. Like moe214 mentioned. Can add arowana(not a jardini), datnoids, larger catfish, bichirs, Rays (if legal), tiger fish, and SD etc.

I wouldn't add a cichlid like a jag. Both fish are aggressive and there will be territory issues.

Will need a bigger tank if getting any more fish and filtration as well.

If it were a different species would it potentially not grow as large? I was told 8-10 inches.

Okay, so mainly the black lateral line? Man, what do you guys recommend when buying mislabeled fish? Besides know what your buying!! Some of us only know enough to get ourselves in trouble. Like I knew the common would be way too big song got the "black". Now it's screwed up everything I'm so frustrated. I paid $50 bucks.
