Hey I was looking to get a black wolf fish soon for my 125 gallon tank. I wanna set the tank up with a few pieces of driftwood, some large smooth rocks, and hardier plants such as anubias java fern bolbitis crypts moss etc. I would rather not have a tank with just a single fish so I was wondering - is there any tankmates you guys think can work with the black wolf fish in this setup?

You’ll need to get a bigger tank if planning tankmates. Like pbass, arowana, lower jaw bichirs or large catfish etc. These will work. But if u can’t upgrade from the 125g then I’d keep it solo. But that IMO.

Ah damn alright thanks, I’ll Have to choose between doing a solo black wolf or try something such as a gold. I used to have a red wolf with my upper jaw polys in this tank but had to rehome them a few months ago. Now that I’m setting it up again I wanna do predators again but want to try something different.
Welcome aboard
Agree with this.
thank you, I’m excited to be a part of the forum!

My curupira tolerated tankmates. Was never outright aggressive or even territorial. That said if someone messed with him, he had no problem putting them in there place. Overly aggressive species like my armatus seemed to stress him out, so I wouldn't put anything with him that is going to want to start a bunch of fights (CA cichlids, etc.) as you are going to have either a stressed out curupira or shredded tankmates. My experience with most hoplias is there a "walk quietly and carry a big stick" type of fish.

5 to 7 golds roaming around are a sight to see, but 125 maybe a bit small. A solo black wolf is fun too, and you’ll bleed eventually!!!
