hey guys I have a wild caught blue acara that's pretty damn mean. It is in a 150g 5ft tank with a 5" green severum, 5" SB GT, 5 4" geo red heads, and a 3" blood parrot. Every atricle i've read notes that the blue acara is pretty mild manner and usually on the bottom of the pecking order. It has claimed half of my 150g from the Geos and blood parrot. I see it constantly chasing my geos and parrot out of his half. My GT and severum are pretty docile leaving everyone alone. The GT will chase the acara away all the time if he sees it liplocking any of my geos.

Anyone have a blue acara liek this? or are the geos really that non aggressive?

I would post a picture here just to make sure...

My experience with Blue Acaras is that while it's not the norm, they can be as aggressive as any other cichlid. They're not the type to immediately kill their tankmates like say a Red Devil, but they can still do some damage and bullying. Mine (especially the female) were pretty aggressive, they killed a GT during breeding time and after my male died the female started bullying her tankmates, especially the two Severums that were added to her tank. I ended up giving her away when she started attacking my [young] male Salvini, he was gonna end up killing her anyway lol

geos are not going to with stand the abuse from an acara which can be either docile or agressive. I had them both. I would get the geos away from the acara as liplocking will damage their lips as they are only semi agressive with their own kind but an agressive acara will end up killing all your geos.

Yup, some BA's can be plain mean. SOunds like you're going to have to do some moving around.

here are some pics. My biggest Geo doesn't back down from it. Just today I guess my geos got sick of him and 2 of them took over his sleeping spot. I'm currently leak testing my old 30g long hopefully I can get the acara in there by monday. Right now he is in timeout, I put him in a 5g compartment in my sump.

EDIT: http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?390797-new-SB-green-terror&highlight= here are some picks of my SB GT. He is twice the size now.

yup, as noted, while BA's are generally more peaceful than other similar ciclhlids, there are always exceptions ... good luck

That's an amazingly sexy Blue Acara, never heard of them being this aggressive.
