Ok, so Im thinking about changing my 55 from a S.A. Cichlid over to a North American Cold Freshwater. I was wondering if I could keep my blue lobster...Will he tolerate the 55 degree water?
Thanks!

Welcome to MFK!!!

First, are you planning on using a chiller to keep the temp that low? Or, is this tank in an unheated basement?

If your blue lobster is a Procambarus alleni, it'll tolerate the cooler temps just fine. But, if the blue lobster is a Cherac sp., it will not survive that low of a temp.

It would be an unheated basement, so we are not talking any lower than 55 degrees. How do I tell the difference between the two different species? He's a blue color with orangeish red. Not like some of the electric blue ones that I have seen.
Thanks!

Does anybody have any info or experience on Tiger Losters? My LFS just got some they look pretty cool..

Tiger Lobsters are easy. The biggest thing is how long they sat at the wholesaler before your LFS got them. Just ask to see them eat before you buy them. Also see if they are slow to respond to touch. This is a good indicator of the condition of them. They should bolt when you try to pick them up. If they do not even throw up there claws when aproached steer clear.

WHile we're on the subject.

Could anyone tell me which kind i have and what water temp is best. I got it from Petco and all it said on the tank was Blue Lobster. So i dont know which kind he is.
