I plan to set up a 125 gallon tank and want to keep 1 red Oscar, 1 Bocourti cichlid a spotted high fin pleco along with a group of 5-9 electric blue/true blue Acaras. Would this stocking work? Should I over filter the tank? Are there any major aggression issues?

first off, that tank will be heavily stocked, so over filtration and frequent water changes will be a must.I dont see too many issues between the oscar and bocourti, but it will depend on the oscar, as some are just angry at the world, but for most i would imagine it would work. the thing i would worry about is the acara, as they could become a snack/victims of the oscar. overall, i think it could work, but definitley proceed with caution.

O's are great but I love my big Bocourti. Pearsei are even better IMHO. if you stay on top of maintenance you could probably do some medium sized cats and one of the big boys you like. something active like synos or bochii pims. Id keep it simple and do 1 cichlid so you don't have to stress and can get the most out of the fishes personality

Thanks.
The Bocourti and an Oscar alone would not have room in a 125 gallon if properly cared for. Also one may not tolerate the other after a while.
would I be able to get both if I upgraded to a 210?

Thanks.

Depends on each fishes personality and if anyone’s laying eggs.

I typically stock 3 large Male cichlids per 180. I know others are more conservative about their stocking levels

The goal of the tank setup is to have the contrast of some different colors and shapes of fish. The electric blue Acara have the body shape to complement the tall big cichlids.

Also as much of a size difference between the group of fish and the centerpiece fish as possible without predation.

Bocourti aren’t super predatory and have relatively small mouths for their size. I find EBAs to be fiesty.
Have looked at characins like markiana nigrippinis?
