bow front tank on rectangular stand

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
seems awfully dodgy to have a tank sitting like that but it is what it is. could be a fault in the stand, perhaps they messed up the measurements (i know machines do it but mistakes still happen).
i would still fill up the gap or get a flat stand. like i said a little overhang on the bow wont matter as long as the main body of the tank is supported. on petcos website they are offering a 4ft stand for $49.99 and its a flat top.

my bow fronted tanks pre-formed stand has a centre support, 2 actually (granted they are just laminated chip board), but im sure they arent there for no reason.
a 4ft tank weighing about 542 pounds (calculations for my ~65 USG bowfront) resting on what looks like 1/2" at most of wood (probs chip board) with no centre supports isnt worth the risk to me. i would get your self a flat stand and add centre support if it doesnt have any, especially if its chip board.

I'm going to see if I can return it (or I might just pick up the 75g that goes with it for another $150.00, and start a new tank). I had a tank leak out on me less than a year ago. Most likely due to the tank not sitting level, regardless, I don't want to go through that again. Maybe I'll make my own stand.

Cut a pice of 1/2 inch MDF to cover the top of the stand. that will give the entire rim of the tank contact with the stand. problem solved?

with stands like that the tank sits within the lip. you will break your tank more than likely by perching it like that. measure the area behind the lip and fill it with wood till you get a flat top for the tank to sit on.
the slight overhang of the bow wouldnt matter if the whole tank was sitting on a flat surface.
with aga brand stands the tank sits on top of the stand, not inside.
just cut a piece of 3/4" plywood the size of the stand and put it between the tank and stand.

strange ive never seen anything like that. learn something new everyday on here.

glass tanks only need perimeter support so a rectangular tank on that stand is fine.
but the tank is not rectangular..so...it is risky..

I think you have the right idea though:

get a 90 gallon tank for the stand you have now (screw the 75 the 90 is nicer and fits) and get a proper bowfront stand too

then you have two tanks instead of one and you will be a happy person forever and ever.
