Breeding zebra plecos

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'd be more then willing to send the female. i've just havn't found some one that is willing to split the fry. I had no clue that there was other areas that no longer allowed inporting of them. What's some of the other places?
Also is just because there so indangered in the wild?
are close to it like the Bala is?

i dun think it's endangered, but more of people knowing the price, and trying to control it, by exporting less, or stocking up more to release slowly, instead of releasing all during the June season:(

i know this is a dead thread but i wanted to bring this back up because it is full of great info i was interested!

the breeders are also probably trying to control the market like the diamond market back with the dabeare's!

Yea, Ive breed them too, way easy, they are substrate cave spawners, go to ebay and search "breeding Cave", there was also a cool video a while back on youtube showed breeding activity so you know what to look for

i am starting to get suspiciuos of you man u have said you have bred everything and then say look up breeding caves on ebay!:screwy:

you kno what i looked up those caves all they are are claypots with holes drilled in or a coconut shell or some flattened pipe! srry my man but i have an idea for breeding caves!

I have bred most stuff, trying pirhanha right now, thats just what has worked for me with cichlids and pleco, throw a pot, a glass, anything that resembles a cave that wont fall and crush them, just some people want nicer stuff, clay pot or coconut shell aint everyones style. I think successfull breeding is the superbowl of fishkeeping, just fun, trade babies in at lfs for some pellets or credit, just fun to me i guess, im good at it and trying to help

i had a couple zebras. they arent as easy as every1 carries on. theres alot more info out there than When i gave them a try. the price of those guys is more of an investment than a hobby. you better be ready for the challenge. i Would like to give them another try but really dont have the time or money. most of the Websites that ive read give you the basics but the finer details you have to figure out yourself.if i had to guess that the price Will hold steady for abou6 or 7 years or so. the more they get adapted to captive breeding the faster they Will spaWn. i had 6 for about tWo years in a 55 gallon and couldnt get em goin.it just takes time i guess

Generally speaking, the key to breeding ZPs or other plecos is patience. Most specimens that land into the hands of aquarists have a way to go before maturity, sometimes years:cry:

wow youre lucky to get those to spawn!
