I figured your cats would be like mine after being around tanks so long.... Mine used to hear the water turn on and come running to supervise. Would just sit there and watch the water come out of the hose. After about 10 minutes they would paw it, get wet, run off, and be back in 5 minutes to repeat......

Man the suspense you must be going through right now.......... I could only imagine........

Ok tank filled no leaks..

Then I turned on the pump, sump emptied, then all of a sudden water all over the floor.. !!!

After looking closely at the tank I found that the overflows are a bit too high and the tank spilled over the edges.. Phew glad it was that and not a leak.

Off to the hardware store to buy some 3" couplers so I can cut the drains down a bit.
Will have to either drain the tank half way or go for a swim and plug the bulkhead opening. Not sure if I want to freeze yet.

Are you sure it's the height and not the intake screens being too restrictive? As long as they are below the top of the tank, you shouldn't have any flow problems on 2 3" pipes. If you cut the overflows down, you may have overflow on your sump if the power goes out.

No, in fact I bet you're right.. Damn..

That's ok.. the water is 54 degrees and I tried to go under to block it off anyways and there was just no way. The second I went under all the breath in me went away.

I did lower one of the 2 drains about 2 inches which should start draining more where I wanted it to anyways. Will let is sit over night with the heat turned up a bit in the house and the Mag 1200 in the tank keeping the water moving, maybe it will be a lot warmer tomorrow.

Will also allow the spilled water to dry up and will start the main pump up again tomorrow.

Thanks for all the help and advice so far, it's been an awesome project.

Is there any way to knock the intake screens free or do they unscrew? If they unscrew, get a threaded pvc coupling the same size and glue some eggcrate inside it. Coat it with pond armor or just spray it with blue krylon fusion. Should flow freely and keep the fish out of the intakes.
