Bulkhead and Pondliner advice

Any tips on how to do this? Drill the hole through the wood first and then put the liner up against it and cut it out? Cut it flush with the whole or leave a little extra?

I have installed plenty of bulkheads but never dealt with a pondliner so want to make sure I do it right the first time.
 
could be wrong but i would imagine cutting the hole, putting the liner through, putting the bulkhead in and cutting the excess liner, and im not sure if its needed or "right" but sylicone the inside and out side of the bulk head???

not saying im right, just taking a wack, so sorry if im no help
 
Here's what I did with no leaks.
1. Drilled holes in wood for bulkheads
2. Fitted liner in pond making sure it wouldn't move or get pulled down at all when filled
3. Used a hair dryer to heat up the liner sound the hole for the bulkhead
4. Cut a X where the whole was stoping about 1/4 from the outer edges of the hole(to prevent leaks)
5. Inserted bulkhead than trimmed off the access liner.
6. Put a bead of silicone around the bulkhead on the wet side (insurance)

No leaks. When you heat up the liner it expands so when it cools back down and shrinks it gives it a better seal.
 
^^your the man, thanks! i actually needed to know this info as well.... how do you feel about pond liner vs blue max rubber liquid? i know it depends on your aplication and personal feelings but im just curious..
 
I have no experience with thE blue max product so I don't think I could accurately answer that but like you said it would depend on the application
 
+1 with Andy.

Use the bulkhead to mark the liner where you want the fitting.
I use an awl and just trace the inside of the fitting.
I then cut 1/8-1/4" inside that line to make a slight seal.
Silicon on threads of the fitting.
Heating sounds like a good idea.
