Just pronounce it the way you think best it doesnt really matter. i have even heard that there is no right way to pronounce scientific names

I always said Dovii like Dow-eye.

The one I still cannot settle on is Geophagus. Is it Geo-phay-gus, or geoph-uh-gus?

This is a good example of how to determine proper pronunciation. The roots of Geophagus are "geo" and "phagus." Both words are Greek and in this use mean earth (geo) and eater (phagus).

Put them together and the proper pronunciation is geo-PHA-gus.

Awesome thread. Wanted to start a thread like this earlier after being intrigued about the pronunciation of fish like dovii and salvini, pretty much most fish with an "I" at the end. I've pronounced them mostly with an "Eye" sound at the end.

As far as Grammodes I've always gone with "gruh-modes".
One I thought was very interesting was the way Neetroplus was pronounced at the ACA convention in Sacto. During one of the presentations it was pronouced
"nee-eh-tro-plus".
