Calling all TENECOR tank owner...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Do any of you have the issue with the overflow seems that my tank has? Do your overflow columns have a nice clean weld, or is using a strip of acrylic to seal the imperfection a common practice? It is ugly...looks like an amateur installed the overflow columns.

Two of my three acrylic Tenecor tanks have over flows. My 450 has two overflows and they are fine, no issue. My 180 looks fine but I think someone attempted to change the drain size by gluing some acrylic over a hole and re-drilling. I had a lot of trouble getting a bulkhead to fit. When I got the used tank the whole area was covered with silicon glue telling me some one had leaks in that area. I don't think this was an original issue.

Nothing will beat a used tank in good shape price wise. In my case, I've been looking for one over an year without luck and I just decided to bite the bullet and order a new one.

Yeah I'm looking for a 900+ and I'm desperately holding out for used but nothing is available at the moment. If you do end up buying I would love to know the details. In fact if you want to drop my name and tell them you have someone interested, maybe that will get you a discount. You can see my Niger cat (Tank) is getting too big. It's close to 2 feet now and I bet it weighs 8 pounds! Pic of him in my 8 foot 450 gallon.

I had a 180gl 60x24x30 Tenecor tank for a few years after I took it down and replaced it with my current tank I did notice alot of bubbles in the back Paine of acrylic with a lot of running of the sealant,My buddy wanted to buy it from me but I am glade he did not as this tank failed a few months later to a guy I sold it to on GL.Why it busted is beyond me but for such a small tank to bust only a few years old is just not a good thing

I have a 450g tenecor, quality is OK. When I do get another tank(9'x30"x36") most likely it will not be from tenecor. They have pisspoor customer service and it was too much of a head ache ordering from them on something that shouldve been enjoyable.

I already order it from Midwest, a 315 (7x3x2). It should be ready by the third week of August. I decided to go with them based on the way they handle the entire process, the fact that your contact person is the one who actually builds your tank and the good things I heard about them on this site.

That's an awesome background you have. Makes such a difference.
Nigers get huge ....when I was collecting in the Amazon (Rio Nanay) the locals were catching some really big ones (check out my picture thread)...they taste great too lol.

I hope you were not referring to me. I have not said any thing bad about tenecor. My tank was like this when I bought it used almost a year ago. there could be several reasons for the bowing, for instance the stand it was on when I went to look at it was Very lacking to say the least. I am amazed it was still standing and not on the floor. and it was in a garage with no climate control, no telling how hot it had gotten. I am in the same boat as Egon, Cheap is good ! and if nothing else there is way over the $400 I spent on this tank in acrylic to use on a future project.
If tenecor can fix it good and if not thats ok too I understand the warranty is only good to the original purchaser. Who knows I may set it on it's side, cut the top off and replace it with another viewing Panel. And why not, I have allready cut out the center overflow that alone should have voided the warenty even if I was the original owner of this tank. That would make it more usable for my app. but for the time being it is what it is, a huge tank.

Was it bowing before you cut it out?

I don't like this thread because it seems that some people are dead set on badmouthing Tenecor. I don't know ANY acrylic tank makers that let you transfer the warranty. The running of the weld on is something I've seen in pretty much all the tanks I've ever owned (4) so that seems normal to me. Plus Tenecor would not build a tank too thin at a customer's request if it was not going to hold. I think we should give Tenecor a chance. If their quote was competitive I would possibly purchase from them. I haven't seem any ORIGINAL owners respond with too much negativity.

Well I sure wasn't positive

I agree with you on the warranty issue. People do all sorts of crazy stuff with tanks (set hot lights directly on top, place them on uneven stands, cut braces etc.). Tenecor shouldn't be held responsible for stuff like that. Even though my tank was only test filled by the original owner, I was ok with buying it knowing that the warranty would not carry over to me because of the fact that it was built be a reputable company...and I got a good deal on it. I do believe Tenecor is a reputable company. But in regards to the workmanship, I think my pictures speak for themselves. The original owner was not happy at all with the sloppy job on the overflow columns either. He was actually very forthright and mentioned it to me when I went to see the tank for the first time. If I dropped 5 figures like he did (yes, he paid over $10K), I would expect all of the seams to look professional. I'm not saying it has to look flawless, but you shouldn't have to reinforce an overflow with a rod of acrylic to make it water tight...that is bush league. Having said all that, the original owner did say that customer service was good and that his tank actually arrived ahead of schedule.

I'm not trying to pile on the company...it is what it is.
