Came across this can anyone ID?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Interesting. Thanks.

Yeah, please be prepared to separate them the first day if they start fighting. 9" is a good size. Could be sub-adult or adult = fiercely territorial in a smallish tank.

Please let YC and all know how you came about these, if you will.

I'd say the fish is probably an adult, batrochoglanis species don't get too large. I acquired mine at 2" and it grew to around 9" in about a year and a half if I recall but with so much unknown it could grow larger?
I should mention that not only do pseudopimelodids not play well with their own species, they don't get along with other genus/species they're related to as well. Here's a pic of 2 c. apurensis put in a tank temporarily:

Here's what happens when you put a pseudopimelodus in with a c. fowleri:

Same fish survived nicely:

Are there any pseudopimelodids species that get around 35cm? I find the information on the planetcatfish unreliable, with these cats, so i though id ask here.
Sorry for the derail, hope to get my questions answered.

Well all the microglanis species are smaller than 35cm, so are all pseudopimelodus except p. mangurus, much larger. Batrochoglanis, also smaller, all cephalosulurus grow much larger with the possible exception of c. nigricaudus that maybe grows slightly larger than that but few examples exist for them and they may get larger. Planet Catfish is very reliable in most cases, some of their information comes from FishBase, not always correct or complete in some cases. Planet Catfish is inclined to understate total growth size unless they're given indisputable evidence to the contrary. The best example is C. apurensis, In the Cat-E log it's stated to grow to 11.8", I raised one to 20" and it's larger now with it's new owner. Evidence exists that they grow to 28"! I and others have discussed the matter with them but… They show maximum size of c. fowler to be 15.9", mine is now 17", guess I have a world record, eh? No big deal, still a big fan of Planet Catfish..

Texas huh? Too bad, I'd crawl across Texas for the right fish…!

The way I see it, we all should chip in and keep improving the Cat-eLog for the sake of all of us and the hobby.
