Can a fish survive In a bag for 48 hours?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I had a German Blue ram shipped to me in a breather bag and it survived the 48 hour transit time fine.

is this a good idea? if i would have the bags opened and put some anti ammonia like prime or ammolock then reoxygenate the bag at the transhipper? because after the international flight it would be then shipped in the domestic.

Personaly the more delicate the fish is the more I like drip acclimateing.. knock on wood. I've never lost a fish from shock from drip acclimation. I like to put the fish in a dark container, to minimize stress. Add an air stone. and do a 2 hour plus drip. may be overkill... but I use to have very nice african/SW water.. high PH hard as a rock. And kept many low PH species due to careful acclimation.

I'de also have a test-kit on hand to get a solid reading on the PH/ ammonia ect in the bags when you get them.

48 hours should be no problem if the fish don't get too hot or cold and are not fed for a few days prior to shipping

I use polyfilter in bags to remove ammonia

After 2 days you need to get the fish out of the bag vs acclimating them. I dump them into a net and into the quarantine tanks

Thanks guys, A transhipper of mine offers that he can re oxygenate the bags and in case put some ammolock then reseal is this a good idea or i should just let the fish sit and have it opened when it arrives?

The fish just came in Dumped the F0 fronts as i opened the bag they really want to be out of that water i see them jumping out. Dumped them immediately to the tank and now they are doing great. The smaller cichlids are still buzzed but i see the first hand effects of dump method Its very good for larger fishes who produce waste I dint expect that ammoniom??? would turn to ammonia that fast. So i just scooped them by hand then dumped
