Fed my Florida gar a piece of prawn, it swallowed it but I think it choked. It seemed to struggle for a moment, before it went upside down and floated. It’s gills stopped moving and I thought it died. 10 seconds after it regained its balance and its now resting at the bottom. I hope it’s fine now, but still a little worried. Has anyone experienced this before?? Sorry for the bad picture

Yes thay can choke and may even die from it. To be on the safer side Try feeding pieces a bit smaller than you actually think the fish can swallow.
I think I recently saw a tread where an arowana was fed at night it choked and died the next morning

My fault for feeding it such a big piece ?. It’s fine now though. Does anyone have any experiences with their fish choking?

There's loads of images online, this is quite an extreme example, a pike choked to death on some kind of bass by the looks of it.

Seems to me that a lot of predatory fish are lacking in the ability to gauge spacial awareness!

That’s just insane… I’ll probably feed my fish smaller cuts of meats now. Has anyone here had their own fish choke and die though?

As long as the gills are clogged there is potential to choke.
My piranha died mysteriously, choking on a plastic plant is one of the possible contenders (my theory is that he hit the wall to hard though).
