The ingredients on this bottle meant for pools are not listed - it's so much cheaper than pH Down I buy in stores - wondering if there are harmful chemicals in it before I try it on my fish tank. I have a 180 gallon with cichlids and several bottom-dwellers, but no live plants. Any tips or advice from experience would be helpful. Thanks guys!

Why are you messing with PH? Are you trying to breed a sensitive species ?

PH down is a waste of money and can lead to tank crashes and fish deaths . Just keep PH stable with a regular water change regiment . Save your money for fish. ... My 2 cents

Thanks for the tip - can most cichlids survive in regular tap water pH? Tap water pH is usually around 9 and I've read it should stay around 7.5-8. I've had pH-sensitive fish like Discus and others, I know their pH is acidic but does anything apply to cichlids/bichirs?

I keep discus , cichla , pikes, even rays at one time in tap water ..my water is hard liquid rock at a ph over 9, with varying levels of chorlamine.

If you start messing with KH values which most ph reducing products affect , your ph will never be stable . Setting yourself up for a crash where the good bacteria will stop the nitrification process.. If ph goes too low ..

I tried using a PH reducer back in the 90s on a 10 gallon, after a few hours, the PH would go back to what it was. Made no sense but I got tired of stressing the fish and left it alone.

Well saving money on something is always good news - good to know! Thanks for your help.
