can oranda goldfish live with frontosa

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I probably wouldn't risk it mate, if your frontosa attacked a defenceless fish like an oranda, it would almost certainly kill it. That said frontosas are quite placid as cichlids go.

all the best,

G

Aren't frontosa a tropical fish?

Orandas aren't.

OTHER THAN THE FACT THAT THE ORANDA IS A COLD WATER FISH N THE FRONTS TROPICAL THERES NO REASON IT WOULDNT WORK AS LONG AS THE FRONT CANT EAT THE ORANDA.THERE WAS A REAL WACKY GUY THAT USED TO COME IN TO THE LFS BY ME ,HE KEPT ALL KIND OF FANCY GOLDS WITH WAY MORE AGGRESIVE AFRICANS FOR A LONG TIME.THE FRONTS ARE ABOUT AS PLACID AS THEY GET. TRY IT IF YOU WANT JUST DONT TURN THE TEMP DOWN ON YOUR HEATER(S) MORE THAN A COUPLE DEGREES.

Can deer live with tigers?

There's a big reason to not keep orandas with trops. At warmer (tropical) temps, goldfish put out more waste (including body slime) and can cause havoc to a system's biological filtration.

Thanks for the information

I don't know exactly what temp gold fish require but fronts can be cooler than alot of tropical fish down to almost 78 degrees and fronts are real mellow.

72-78 degrees Fahrenheit is ideal for all fancy goldfish. They don't tolerate cooler water any more than the singletails can.

As far as combining frontosas and goldfish, I have not tried that combo but goldfish in general should NEVER be combined with anything that will put them under constant distress. They are NOT accustomed to being pushed around and will easily succumb to health issues. Fancies are very prone to health issues so take note of that. Even the slightest stress will weaken them quickly.
